Origins:
This rough fabric was originally created for export to European and American department stores after the war. Before urethane sponges were available, this rough fabric was used as a substitute for dishwashing sponges. The stiffness of the fabric's texture comes from this traditional use for cleaning dishes.
Functionality:
Being a knit product, it differs from woven fabrics (fuhaku) in that it is very easy to use when folded and held in the hand due to its elasticity. Compared to woven fabrics, it has a higher water absorption capacity, allowing for the efficient wiping of many dishes. Additionally, the fabric's coarse texture enables it to dry quickly, enhancing its hygienic properties.
No Fluorescent Agents:
Since no fluorescent brightening agents are used. It is safe for use not only as a dishcloth but also as a handkerchief for wiping a baby's mouth, providing peace of mind for users.
